Jingdezhen
History
Throughout both the Spring and Autumn period and the Warring States period, the area of present-day Jingdezhen belonged to the Chu State. After the fall of the Chu, the area was incorporated into the Qin dynasty as part of Fan County (番县) in Jiujiang Commandery. Under the Han dynasty, the area belonged to Poyang County (鄱阳县) in Yuzhang Commandery. Under the Han dynasty, the particular area of future Jingdezhen was known as Xinping (新平). Historical records show that it was during this time that it began to make porcelain.

Master Factory
From Jingdezhen to the World
Jingdezhen is known as the "Porcelain Capital" (瓷都) because it has been producing Chinese ceramics for at least 1,000 years, and for much of that period, Jingdezhen porcelain was the most important and finest quality in China. The city has a well-documented history that stretches back over 2,000 years.

The Imperial Beauty of Celadon
"天青" (Sky Blue) is considered the pinnacle of celadon glaze, an imperial hue of Eastern porcelain. Among its most esteemed forms is the celadon adorned with a network of "冰裂開片" (crackle glaze). Emperor Huizong of the Song Dynasty praised it with the words, "雨過天青雲破處,這般顏色做將來" (After the rain, the sky clears and reveals this color), perfectly capturing the ethereal blue-green shade of celadon, resembling the sky and jade-like in its texture.

Cloisonné "銅胎掐絲琺瑯"
Cloisonné ("銅胎掐絲琺瑯"), also known as 景泰藍 (Jingtailan), is a renowned Qing Dynasty craft and one of the 八絕 (Eight Unique Skills of Beijing). Described as "技可近乎藝,亦可通乎神" (skill can approach art, and can reach divinity), Jingtailan's production process is intricate and laborious, using precious materials. During the Qing Dynasty, it was almost exclusively used by nobility, known for its resplendent beauty and exquisite craftsmanship.

Koji Pottery "交趾陶"
"交趾陶" (Koji Pottery) represents the pinnacle of Eastern 彩陶雕塑工藝 (painted clay sculpture), inheriting kiln techniques from the 嶺南地區 (Lingnan region), hence its name. It later flourished in 嘉義 (Chiayi), Taiwan, primarily used for temple architecture and decorative vessels. Known for its vibrant and fantastical hues, 交趾陶 (Koji Pottery) features a vast array of over a hundred glaze colors, embodying the essence of Eastern 瓷器釉藥 (porcelain glazes). Crafted from 軟瓷 (soft porcelain) and fired at lower temperatures, it allows for exquisite and intricate shapes.
